Welcome to our 2017-Tactic blog!!


As in previous years, our team wants to invite you to follow our blog while we are serving in Guatemala. In this blog you will find stories, prayer requests, and a quick glimpse of what each one of us is experiencing while working on the field. Our team is formed by 18 people. Together we will be providing primary care services to the community of Tactic [tak ' tik].


Tactic is  located in the department of Alta Verapaz Guatemala. The languages spoken in this community are Spanish, Poqomchí and Q'eqchí. Our team will be flying from Newark airport to Guatemala City on July 13th. Guatemala is located in the central time zone, which means that time difference is 2 hrs. behind PA time.

Hey Mom! I am alive! So far, our trip to Guatemala has been incredibly beautiful and humbling. After a long night spent sleeping in the airport, I have become a professional at sleeping on planes and bumpy car rides (there are no speed limits).  I am so blessed that the people of Tactic have welcomed us so warmly into their community. It is still early in our trip, but we have had two days of work in the clinic. We have also done several home visits, school visits, and church visits. Our team went shopping in the local market. We also went hiking in a sink hole, and my clumsy self managed not to fall. Also, Dad would be proud that our interpreters are helping me with my Spanish. My Spanglish is muy bien! I am excited for the adventures to come. I am thankful for God's provision. With all my love, Kayla.

"Flexibilidad"

One of the first Spanish words you learn on a missions trip is "flexibilidad" (flexibility)... this trip is no exception! Due to weather conditions and the fact that the Guatemala City airport closes at 11pm, our plane isn't able to leave tonight. We will see what the plan is once we get off the plane (been waiting patiently since about 6:15 to take off). Always an adventure!

Heyy, we're alive! And very much off the grid. I won't repeat too much of what Kayla said since she explained what we have been up to the last few days but I did want to mention that this morning we had the opportunity to go to two of the schools that Impact Ministries runs in the Tactic area. At the first school we participated in morning devotions with the elementary school kids, who were very loud and enthusiastic about praising the Lord in song!! Then we went to another school where we got to meet one class of 10 students and their teacher. We played some games with them and shared chocolate-covered fruit as snacks. It was a blast to play with these kids and see their excitement about our visit. I love how excited they are to come up and give us hugs, smile at us, ask us questions even when we can't understand them, giggle with us, and take our hands and make up games to play. We had lots of fun and are now going to be working in the clinic for the afternoon. Thanks ...
