Are you flexible?

What a nice day to travel, the team arrived on time at the church we load all the suitcases in the vans and after praying for safety and wisdom we were sent off. The drive to Newark airport was really nice without any incidents. We didn't get stuck in traffic and we arrived to the airport with plenty of time to spare before boarding our plane. For those of you who have been in any mission trip, you probably hear someone saying " if you want to go on a mission trip you must learn to be flexible" Well, today God make us remember that He is always in control and that indeed we need to be flexible. The event of today make me also remember the words written in Philippians 4:6-7 The Lord is at hand;  do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. First I received a text from one of the nurses she was having acute abdominal pain and she has heading to the hospital in NJ. His husband, also another nurse, took her to the closet urgent care and then to the hospital. With their best intentions and a passion to serve God, they made everything possible to meet us at the airport. They couldn't arrived on time and re-schedule their flight for the following day. Once again the words of Philippians came to mind. The rest of the team (16 in total) had no problems checking bags and when the time came we all boarded the plain without any incidents, on the departure screen our flight was listed as " on time". Once in the plane, the captain announced that because of a severe thunderstorm all flights have been hold on the ground for security and thank us all for our patience. Two hrs. later, the captain announced that because the airport in Guatemala closes at 11 pm. the plane needs to come back to the gate. We never took off. Again Philippians 4. Back again in the airport we waited on line at the counter of customer service. After patiently waiting in line for an eternity, not really probably one hour, we finally were told that our flight was going to be reschedule for tomorrow Friday at 7 am.
Each one of us was given a $10 courtesy voucher to by a snack. I got myself a delicious hamburger.
When we finally got our new boarding passes it was 11pm, and an important decision needed to be made, trying to find a hotel to spend the night or spend the night at the airport. We all decided to spend the time at the airport. Are you flexible? our team just proved that yes we know what being flexible mean. God once more has being faithful and that He is always in control, and as it says in Philippians 4 we gave thanks to the Lord praying together as a team giving Him what was left of our anxiety.

Please pray for Rachel as she still not feeling well and unfortunately she and Thomas most likely wont be able to come with us to Tactic.

Hey Mom! I am alive! So far, our trip to Guatemala has been incredibly beautiful and humbling. After a long night spent sleeping in the airport, I have become a professional at sleeping on planes and bumpy car rides (there are no speed limits).  I am so blessed that the people of Tactic have welcomed us so warmly into their community. It is still early in our trip, but we have had two days of work in the clinic. We have also done several home visits, school visits, and church visits. Our team went shopping in the local market. We also went hiking in a sink hole, and my clumsy self managed not to fall. Also, Dad would be proud that our interpreters are helping me with my Spanish. My Spanglish is muy bien! "Flexibilidad"

One of the first Spanish words you learn on a missions trip is "flexibilidad" (flexibility)... this trip is no exception! Due to weather conditions and the fact that the Guatemala City airport closes at 11pm, our plane isn't able to leave tonight. We will see what the plan is once we get off the plane (been waiting patiently since about 6:15 to take off). Always an adventure!

Heyy, we're alive! And very much off the grid. I won't repeat too much of what Kayla said since she explained what we have been up to the last few days but I did want to mention that this morning we had the opportunity to go to two of the schools that Impact Ministries runs in the Tactic area. At the first school we participated in morning devotions with the elementary school kids, who were very loud and enthusiastic about praising the Lord in song!! Then we went to another school where we got to meet one class of 10 students and their teacher. We played some games with them and shared chocolate-covered fruit as snacks. It was a blast to play with these kids and see their excitement about our visit. I love how excited they are to come up and give us hugs, smile at us, ask us questions even when we can't understand them, giggle with us, and take our hands and make up games to play. We had lots of fun and are now going to be working in the clinic for the afternoon. Thanks ...
